Henning & Heerup International is a temporary exhibition elaborating on the participation of the Danish artists Henry Heerup and Carl-Henning Pedersen in the 31st Venice Biennale, 1962.
The curation of the artworks and the scenography emerged from an intense research into the archive of Carl-Henning Pedersen & Else Alfelts Museum and Heerup Museum.
The central installation, welcoming the visitor into the heart of the exhibition, was designed as a composition of fragments, taking inspiration from the architecture of the Danish Pavilion’s entrance.
The materiality of each elements and the presence of a log piercing through the timber structure participate to the reminicence of the location.
The heavy and raw stone sculptures of Henry Heerup are placed on contrete tiles, down to hearth, a characteristic of the artist himself. On the walls are deployed the colorful paintings of Carl-Henning Pedersen,
creating a dialogue between the artworks.
The scenography aims to recreate the spatial experience that revealed the optimism and creative freedom of the two Danish artists and gave them international recognition.
