Rebuilding Børsen: Live
The Børsen site is open to the public with the launch of a new exhibition by JAC studios in collaboration with Dansk Erhverv tracing the building’s original vision through to its future and ongoing reconstruction following the devastating fire in 2024.
The temporary visitor centre invites visitors directly onto the site of the historic stock exchange, making the rebuilding process accessible and open to the city. The exhibition presents the restoration work and acknowledges the many specialists involved, from sandstone sculptors and bricklayers to coppersmiths, engineers and architects, whose expertise is central to the project.
Housed in 15 interconnected containers elevated to first-floor level, the exhibition provides panoramic views across the active construction site, where Børsen itself becomes part of the display. The containers are cut and adapted to form integrated spaces for models, objects and interpretive content, while large openings frame direct views of the reconstruction at full scale.
The material language reflects both the construction site and the historic building. Steel cut from the stacked containers remains exposed, forming displays for architectural models and drawings. Bespoke designed furniture elements incorporate stone fragments recovered from the fire, along with inserted timber for seating and storytelling that represents the material and warmth of Børsen’s interiors. Objects on display include salvaged details such as the crown finial from the dragon spire and one of its ears, both of which will be reinstalled as part of the reconstruction.
The exhibition presents the restoration work and acknowledges the many specialists and crafts involved, from sandstone sculptors and bricklayers to coppersmiths, engineers and architects, whose expertise is central to the project. There is tactile storytelling where visitors can interact directly with the building’s materiality, from examining sandstone sculptures through to touching the different brick typologies, bonds and joinery samples utilised across the building.
Across the façade, a 130 metre hand drawn site cover unfolds as a section through Børsen’s history. Incorporating textures taken directly from the original façade, including brick frottages, the illustration forms a layered collage of the people and events that have shaped the building over time.
