Scientific Artefacts and Poetry
Centered within the historical framework of the Round Tower in Copenhagen, JAC studios has curated and set a composition of original artefacts from the scientist Hans Christian Ørsted’s life. The exhibition honors the 200 years anniversary of his world-famous discovery of electromagnetism.
Four podiums containing a field compasses invite visitors to recreate the famous experiment that led H.C. Ørsted to the discovery of electromagnetism. This collaborative experience opens up to the multifaceted work of H.C. Ørsted, from a lifelong passion for Chladni plates to the invention of more than 2.000 danish words.
With words such as: “ildsjæl” (passionate), “elekromagnetisme” (electromagnetism), “natursammenhæng” (coherence between nature and science) and “medborgersind” (communal sense of citizenship), H.C. Ørsted is literally guiding the visitor through the exhibition in his own language, giving an all-encompassing experience of his life and work.
Materiality and contrast
The detailing and materiality of the faceted oak frame borrows its language from the modular structure of early nineteenth century display cases. While a polished black MDF case, floating on top of the oak frame, stage the displayed objects on a contrasted background. The details and proportions of the glass showcase on top are specifically adapted to the content on display, creating a simple and intriguing experience for the visitor.
